 1.  Then he stepped into the boat, returned to the other side again and came into his town.

 1. 임마누엘은 배에 올라 다시 건너편에 있는 그의 마을로 건너 오셨습니다.
 2.  And behold, they brought to him a paralytic lying on a bed. 
 2. 그러자 사람들이 중풍에 걸려 고통 받고 있는 사람을 침상에 눕힌 채로 데려왔습니다. 

When Jmmanuel saw their faith, he spoke to the paralytic, 

임마누엘은 그들의 믿음을 보시고 중풍 환자에게 말씀하셨습니다. 

"Be comforted, because your faith in the power of my spirit and your confidence in my teachings of wisdom, which are the teachings of nature and of Creation, has helped you.

"안심하시오. 내 영혼이 가진 능력과 내 지혜의 가르침은 곧 자연과 창조의 가르침이니, 이에 대한 그대의 믿음이 이미 그대를 도왔습니다."
 3.  And behold, some of the scribes began stirring up talk among the people: 
 3. 그러자 율법학자 몇 명이 사람들 사이에서 그를 비난하였습니다. 

"This man blasphemes God and our holy teachings.”

"이 자는 신과 우리의 신성한 가르침들을 모독하고 있소."
 4.  But since Jmmanuel understood their thoughts, he spoke, 
 4. 그러나 임마누엘은 그들의 생각을 다 알고 계셨으므로 말씀하셨습니다. 

"Why do you think such evil thoughts against your better knowledge?

"어찌하여 그대들은 그보다 낫게 생각할 수 있음에도 불구하고 그처럼 사악한 생각을 하시오?
 5. "Yet, what is easier, to say, 'Your faith has helped you,' or, 'Stand up and walk!'
 5. 그러면 어느 쪽이 이해하기가 더 쉽습니까? 그대들에게는 '그대의 지식이 그대를 도왔다' 하는 말이 쉽습니까, 아니면 '일어나서 걸으시오' 하는 말이 쉽습니까?
 6. "So that you may know that I am a person like you and yet know how to use the power of my spirit through my knowledge, 
 6. 나도 그대들과 같은 사람이지만, 단지 지식으로써 영혼의 능력을 사용할 줄 안다는 것을 깨달을 수 있도록 하기 위해,

I command the paralytic, 'Get up, pick up your bed and go home!"'

내가 저 중풍 환자에게 명령하리다. '일어나시오. 당신의 침상을 들고 집으로 가시오.'"
 7.  And he stood up, took up his bed, and went home.
 7. 그러자 그 사람은 일어나 침상을 들고 집으로 돌아갔습니다.
 8.  When the people saw this, they became fearful and praised the new wondrous teachings of Jmmanuel, which could give such power to humans.
 8. 사람들은 그것을 보자, 사람에게 그러한 능력을 부여하는 임마누엘의 놀라운 새 가르침을 두려워하고 칭송하였습니다.

 9.  As Jmmanuel was leaving, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office and spoke to him, 
 9. 그 곳을 떠나시면서 임마누엘은 마태오란 사람이 세무소에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 마태오에게 말씀하셨습니다.  

"follow me!" And he stood up and followed him.

"나를 따르시오. " 그는 일어나 임마누엘을 따랐습니다.
 10.  And it came to pass as he was eating at home, behold, many tax collectors, ignorant people and seekers of the truth came and ate at the table with Jmmanuel and his disciples.
 10. 임마누엘이 어떤 집에 머무셨을 때의 일입니다. 이 때에 많은 세금 징수인들과 무식한 사람들과 진리를 구하려는 사람들이 와서 그와 제자들과 함께 식탁에 앉아 있었습니다.
 11.  When the Pharisees saw this, they spoke to his disciples, 
 11. 바리사이파 사람들이 이것을 보고 임마누엘의 제자들에게 말하였습니다. 

"Why is your master eating with the tax collectors and the ignorant?"

"그대들의 스승은 어째서 세금 징수인들과 무식한 자들과 함께 식사를 하고 있는가?"
12.  When Jmmanuel heard this, he spoke, "The healthy do not need a physician but the sick do;  
12. 임마누엘이 이 말을 듣자 말씀하셨습니다. "건강한 사람에게는 필요가 없어도 환자에게는 의사가 필요하고, 

and the knowledgeable do not need the teachings but the ignorant do.

깨달을 줄 아는 사람에게는 필요가 없어도 무식한사람에게는 가르침이 필요하며, 

Those who were not misled do not need the teachings, but those who were misled do.

옳은 가르침을 받은 사람에게는 필요가 없으나 그릇된 가르침을 받은 사람에게는 가르침이 필요한 것입니다.
 13. "Go therefore, and recognize the falseness of your wrong teachings, 
 13. 가시오. 그대들의 그릇된 가르침의 거짓을 깨달으시오. 

so you do not mislead those people who thirst for the truth.

그리하여 진리를 배우고자 애쓰는 저 사람들을 잘못 인도하지 않도록 하시오.

 

Fasting
단 식

 

 14. Then the disciples of john came to him, saying, 
 14. 그 때 요한의 제자들이 그에게 와서 말하였습니다. 

"Master, why do we and the Pharisees fast while you and your disciples do not?"

"스승님, 우리와 바리사이파 사람들은 단식을 하는데, 어찌하여 스승님과 스승님의 제자들은 단식을 하지 않습니까?"
 15. Jmmanuel said to them, 
 15. 임마누엘이 그들에게 말씀하셨습니다. 

"How can the ignorant fast and suffer while they are being taught knowledge?

"무식한 사람이 지식을 배우는 동안에 어떻게 단식을 하면서 고생을 할 수 있겠습니까?
 16. "And how can the teacher fast when he must teach knowledge to the ignorant?
 16. 그리고 또 무식한 사람들에게 지식을 가르쳐야만 하는 마당에 선생이 어떻게 단식을 할 수 있습니까?
 17. "Truly, I say to you, your teachings are false if you fast according to a religious dogma; 
 17. 진실로 나는 그대들에게 말합니다. 어떤 종파의 율법에 따라 단식을 해야 한다면, 그대들의 가르침은 잘못된 것입니다. 

fasting serves only the health of the body and the growth of the spirit.

단식이란 오로지 신체의 건강과 영혼의 성장을 위한 것일 뿐입니다. "
 18. "No one mends an old garment with a new patch of cloth, 
 18. "아무도 헌 옷을 새 천 조각으로 기울 사람은 없으니, 

because the patch will tear again from the garment, and the rip will become worse.

이는 새 천 조각이 헌옷으로부터 다시 뜯겨져 나갈 것이요 헤어진 자국은 더 흉하게 될 것이기 때문입니다.
 19. "Neither is new wine poured into old wineskins,  
 19. 또한 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 부어 넣지도 않는 법이니, 

for the skins will tear, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined.

그렇지 않으면 가죽이 찢어져 포도주가 엎질러지고 술 부대 역시 못 쓰게 될 것입니다. 

Instead, new wine is put into new wineskins so both are preserved.

새 술은 반드시 새 술 부대에 넣어야 하나니, 이는 포도주와 술 부대를 둘 다 보전하기 위해서입니다."

 

The Daughter of Jairus and The Woman with Hemophilia
야이로의 딸과 혈우병을 가진 여인

 

 20. While he was talking with them, behold, one of the community leaders came and knelt before him, saying, 
 20. 임마누엘이 그들과 이야기를 하고 계실 때, 마을의 지도자 가운데 한 사람이 와서 그 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 말하였습니다. 

"My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her so she will live.

"제 딸이 방금 죽었습니다. 그렇지만 부디 제 집에 오셔서 아이에게 손을 얹어 주십시오. 그러면 그 아이가 살아날 것입니다."
 21. And Jmmanuel stood up and his disciples followed him.
 21. 임마누엘은 자리에서 일어나 제자들과 함께 그를 따라 가셨습니다.
 22. And behold, a woman who had hemophilia for twelve years 
 22. 이때 십이 년 동안이나 혈우병을 앓고 있는 여자가 있었는데, 

stepped up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment.

임마누엘의 뒤로 다가가서 그의 옷자락을 만졌습니다.
 23. She spoke to herself, "if only I could touch his garment, I would be cured."
 23. 그녀는 이렇게 혼자 생각을 했기 때문입니다. '만약 내가 이 분의 옷자락을 만지기만 하면, 나는 틀림없이 나을 것이다.'
 24. Then Jmmanuel turned around and saw her, and he said, 
 24. 그러자 임마누엘이 돌아서서 그녀를 보고 말씀하셨습니다.

"Be comforted, your faith has helped you,” and the woman was well from that hour on. 

"마음 놓으시오. 그대의 확신이 그대를 도왔습니다." 그러자 그 여자는 그 순간에 나았습니다.
 25. When he came into the community leader's house and saw the pipers and the turmoil of the people, he spoke,
 25. 그가 야이로의 집에 와서 피리부는 자들과 애통해 하는 사람들의 소동을 보시고 말씀하셨습니다.
 26. "Depart, because the maiden is not dead but is asleep." And they laughed at him.
 26. "물러가시오. 그 소녀는 죽은 것이 아니라 잠들어 있을 뿐입니다." 그 사람들은 임마누엘을 비웃었습니다.
 27. But after the people were driven out, he entered and took her by the hand and spoke, 
 27. 그러나 그들이 바깥으로 다 물러갔을 때, 임마누엘은 안으로 들어가 소녀의 손을 잡고 말씀하셨습니다. 

"l order you to get up and walk!"

"내가 네게 명령하노라. 일어나서 걸어라."
 28. And the maiden stood up and walked, and soon the news of this spread through that entire land. 
 28. 그러자 어린 소녀는 일어나서 걸었습니다. 그리고 곧 이 소식은 온 땅에 퍼졌습니다.

 

A Blind Man and two Mutes
한 소경과 두 벙어리

 

 29. As Jmmanuel left and continued on from there, a blind man followed him, crying, 
 29. 임마누엘이 그 곳을 떠나 길을 가시는데, 소경 한 사람이 그를 쫓아오면서 외쳤습니다. 

"Oh Lord, you son of wisdom and knowledge who can use the power of your spirit, take pity on me."

"오, 주님, 그대는 지혜와 지식의 아들이시므로 영혼이 가진 힘을 사용하실 수 있습니다. 저를 불쌍히 여겨 주십시오."
 30. And as he arrived at his house, the blind man stepped up to him, and Jmmanuel spoke to him, 
 30. 집에 도착하자 소경이 그에게 다가갔습니다. 그는 물으셨습니다.
"Do you have confidence that I can do this?" And he answered him, "Yes, Master."
"내가 당신을 고칠 수 있다고 확신합니까?" 소경이 대답하였습니다. “예, 스승님.”
 31. Then Jmmanuel touched his eyes, saying, 
 31. 그러자 그가 소경의 눈을 만지며 말씀하셨습니다.
"Be it done to you according to your faith.”
"그대가 믿는 대로 그대에게 이루어질지어다. "
 32. And his eyes were opened and he saw.
 32. 그러자 곧 소경의 눈이 떠지면서 사물을 볼 수 있게 되었습니다.
 33. Then Jmmanuel warned him, saying, 
 33. 그때 임마누엘은 그에게 엄하게 경고하셨습니다.
"See to it that no one learns what happened to you."
"그대에게 무슨 일이 일어났는지 아무도 알지 못하게 하시오."
 34. However, the man went out and spread the news of him throughout that land.
 34. 그러나 그 사람은 나가서 온 동네에 자신의 일을 퍼뜨렸습니다.
 35. After the man had left, behold, they brought to him two people who were mute and possessed.
 35. 소경이 떠난 뒤, 사람들은 귀신들린 벙어리 두 사람을 또 데려왔습니다.
 36. And after the evil demons of self-delusion were cast out, behold, the mutes could speak.
 36. 사악한 영혼들이 내어 쫓기자 벙어리들은 말을 하기 시작하였습니다.
 37. And the people were amazed, saying, 
 37. 사람들이 매우 놀라고 탄복하여 말했습니다.
"Such things have never been seen in Israel; 
"이스라엘에서 결코 이러한 일들이 행해진 적이 없도다. 

how mighty are these new teachings about the power of the spirit that they can accomplish such miracles."

이러한 기적들을 행할 수 있다니, 영혼의 능력에 대한 이 새로운 가르침은 얼마나 대단한가?"
 38. However, the Pharisees said, 
 38. 그러나 바리사이파 사람들은 말했습니다. 

"He drives out the evil spirits through their supreme chief, and he blasphemes God, our Lord."

"임마누엘은 악한 영혼들을 몰아낼 때 그들의 두목의 힘을 빌고 있소. 그럼으로써 우리의 주님이신 신을 모독하고 있소."
 39. But among themselves they said, 
 39. 그리고는 자기들끼리 모여 말하였습니다. 

"Who is this Jmmanuel, who possesses greater wisdom and greater knowledge than we?

"우리보다 더 큰 지혜와 더 많은 지식을 가지고 있는 이 임마누엘이란 자는 도대체 정체가 무엇입니까?
 40. "His teachings are mightier and truer than ours, and therefore he endangers us.
 40. 그의 가르침이 우리 것보다 더 강력하고 정확하기 때문에 우리의 지위를 위태롭게 하고 있소이다.
 41. "We must try to seize him, so that he will suffer death."
 41. 우리는 그를 사로잡아 죽음의 고통을 겪도록 하지 않으면 안 됩니다."

 

The great Harvest
큰 수확

 

 42. And Jmmanuel went about in all the cities and villages, taught in their synagogues and preached the mystery of Creation and of the laws of nature, 
 42. 임마누엘은 도시와 마을들을 다니면서 창조의 비밀과 자연의 법칙들을 회당에서 가르치고 전파하셨으니, 

so that the spirit could attain omnipotence.

이는 사람의 영혼이 전능함을 얻을 수 있게 하기 위해서였습니다.
 43. He preached about the spiritual kingdom within humans and healed every type of sickness and infirmity.
 43. 그는 사람들 안에 존재하고 있는 영혼의 왕국에 대하여 설교하는 한편, 모든 병자들과 허약한 사람들을 고쳐 주셨습니다.
 44. When he saw the people he took pity on them, 
 44. 그는 사람들을 가엾게 여기셨으니, 

for they were languishing and scattered like a flock of sheep without a shepherd.

이는 그들이 마치 목자 없는 양의 무리처럼 생기가 없으며 함께 뭉치지 못하고 있기 때문이었습니다.
 45. Then he spoke to his disciples, "The harvest is great, but there are few laborers to bring it in.
 45. 이에 임마누엘은 제자들에게 이르셨습니다. "수확할 것은 대단히 많으나, 그것을 거두어들일 일꾼들이 별로 없습니다.
 46. "Seek and pray in your consciousness that more laborers will be found for the harvesting."
 46. 수확을 거두어들일 일꾼들을 더 많이 구할 수 있도록 그대들이 눈을 크게 떠서 찾고 또 기도하십시오."
 47. And so it came to pass that workers for the harvest were found, who gathered around Jmmanuel to become disciples.
 47. 그리하여 수확을 위한 일꾼들을 마침내 구하였으니, 그들은 임마누엘의 제자들 주위로 모여 들었습니다.
