 1.  When he descended from the mountain, many people followed him.

 1. 임마누엘께서 산에서 내려가시니 많은 사림들이 그를 따랐습니다.
 2.  Behold, a leper came and knelt before him, and said, 
 2. 이 때, 나병 환자 하나가 와서 그 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 말했습니다.
"Master, if you will it, you can make me clean.”
"스승님, 당신은 마음만 먹으시면, 저를 깨끗하게 하실 수 있습니다."
 3.  Jmmanuel stretched out his hand, touched him and said, 
 3. 임마누엘께서 손을 내밀어 그를 만지며 말씀하시기를 

"l will do it. Be cleansed." And immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

"내가 그리하리다. 깨끗해지시오." 하시니, 그가 곧 깨끗이 나았습니다.
 4.  And Jmmanuel spoke to him, "See to it that you tell no one. Instead, go and present yourself to the priest.
 4. 임마누엘은 그에게 말하셨습니다. "아무에게도 말하지 마시오. 그 대신에 사제에게 가서 당신 자신을 보이시오.
 5. "You were healed through the power of the spirit and the wisdom of knowledge."

The Centurion at Capernaum 
가파르나움의 백인대장

 

 6.  When Jmmanuel went to Capernaum, a centurion walked up to him with a request, saying,
 6. 임마누엘께서 가파르나움에 가셨는데, 한 백인대장이 그에게 와서 간청을 하였습니다.
 7. "Master, my servant lies at home incapacitated with gout and is in great distress.
 7. "스승님, 제 하인이 통풍으로 몸을 못 쓰고 집에 드러누워 고통을 겪고 있습니다.
 8. "Master, I have heard your new teachings and
 8. 스승님, 저는 당신의 새로운 가르침을 들었고, 

I know the truth of your wisdom, which states that the human spirit can perform miracles through knowledge of the truth."

인간의 영혼이 진리를 깨달으면 기적을 행할 수 있다고 하신 당신의 지혜가 진실임을 아나이다."
 9.  Jmmanuel spoke to him, "l will come and make him well.
 9. 임마누엘께서 그에게 이르시기를 "내가 가서 그를 낫게 하리다." 하시니,
 10.  The centurion replied, "Master, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof, 
 10. 그 백인대장이 말씀드리되, "스승님, 저는 당신을 제 집으로 모실만한 자격이 없습니다.

but only say the word and my servant will be well.

그러니, 그저 한 말씀만 여기서 해 주십시오. 그러면 제 하인이 나을 것입니다.
 11. "I, too, am a man subject to authority, and I also have soldiers under me. If I say to one, 'Go!' he goes, and 
 11. 저 또한 상부의 명령을 받들며 제 밑으로 군사들도 거느리고 있습니다. 그러므로 한 부하에게 제가 '가라' 하면 그는 가며 , 

to another, 'Come here!' he comes, and to my servant, 'Do this!' he does it."

다른 부하에게 '이리로 오라' 하면 그가 옵니다. 또한 하인에게 '이 일을 하라' 하면 그가 그대로 합니다."
 12.  When Jmmanuel heard this, he marveled and spoke to those who followed him, 
 12. 임마누엘께서 이 말을 듣고 놀라워하시며 따르던 사람들에게 말씀하셨습니다.
"Truly, I say to you, such trust I have found in no one in Israel.
"진실로 내가 그대들에게 말합니다. 이스라엘의 어느 누구에게서도 이러한 믿음을 본 적이 없소이다.
 13. "But I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, from the south and the north, and they will understand my teachings and recognize their wisdom in knowledge.
 13. 그러나 나는 당신들에게 말합니다. 온 세상으로부터 많은 사람들이 와서 내 가르침을 이해하고 지식 안에 있는 지혜를 깨달을 것입니다.
 14. "However, the children of Israel will be expelled into darkness; there will be wailing and the chattering of teeth.
 14. 그렇지만 이스라엘의 자손들은 어둠 속으로 쫓겨나게 될 것이니, 곡성과 이를 가는 소리가 진동할 것입니다.
 15. "The false teachings of Israel will bring bloodshed over the millennia, 
 15. 이스라엘의 그릇된 가르침들은 수천 년에 걸친 유혈 사태를 초래할 것이니, 

because the power-hungry selfishness and high-handedness of Israel will bring death and destruction over the land and all the world.

이는 이스라엘인들의 권력에 굶주린 이기심과 자기 높임이 그 땅과 전 세계에 죽음과 파멸을 초래할 것이기 때문입니다.
 16. "Turn away from the false teachings of the Israelite authorities and their scribes, 
 16. 이스라엘의 종교 지도자들과 율법학자들의 그릇된 가르침을 외면하시오. 

because they will bring destruction to successive generations.

이는 그것들이 인류의 모든 세대들에게 파멸을 가져올 것이기 때문입니다.
 17. "The Israelites believe themselves the chosen people. By no means is this the case, 
 17. 이스라엘은 스스로를 선택된 민족이라고 믿고 있습니다. 그러나 이는 결코 그렇지 않으니, 

because they are more disloyal and unknowing than the ignorant who lack the secret of Creation's laws."

그들은 법칙의 비밀을 알지 못하는 저 이방인들보다도 더 믿음이 없고 무지하기 때문입니다."
 18.  And Jmmanuel spoke to the centurion, "Go, be it done for you as you have expected." And his servant became well that same hour.
 18. 임마누엘께서 백인대장에게 이르셨습니다. "가시오. 그대가 믿은 대로 될 것입니다." 그러자 백인대장의 하인이 그 즉시로 나았습니다.

 19.  Jmmanuel came to Peter's house and saw that his mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
 19. 임마누엘이 베드로의 집에 가셨을 때 그는 베드로의 장모가 고열로 앓아 누운 것을 보셨습니다.
 20.  He touched her hand, the fever left her and she got up and served him. 
 20. 그가 손을 그녀에게 대시니 그 즉시로 나았습니다. 그녀는 일어나 임마누엘의 시중을 들었습니다.
 21.  In the evening, however, they brought to him many who were possessed; 
 21. 저녁이 되자, 사람들이 귀신들린 자들을 많이 데리고 왔습니다. 

and he drove out the evil spirits through his word and made all the sick well.

임마누엘은 말씀으로 사악한 영혼들을 몰아 내시고 병든 사람들을 모두 낫게 하셨습니다.
 22.  So it came to pass that what was said through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who spoke, 
 22. 이리하여 예언자 이사야를 통해 장차 일어날 것으로 전해져 온 일들이 이루어졌으니, 이사야는 이렇게 전하였습니다. 

"He has brought us new teachings of knowledge and has taken our infirmities upon himself, and he has healed our sick."

'그는 지식에 대한 새로운 가르침을 우리에게 가져오실 것이고, 우리의 연약함을 그 스스로 떠맡으실 것이며, 또한 그 분은 우리의 질병들을 치료하실 것이니라.'

On the Seriousness of Discipleship
제자 되기의 어려움

 

 23.  When Jmmanuel saw many people around him, he gave the order to go across to the other shore.
 23. 임마누엘은 많은 사람들이 자기를 에워싼 것을 보시고 제자들에게 건너편으로 건너갈 것을 지시하셨습니다.
 24.  A scribe walked up to him and said, "Master, I will follow you wherever you go.
 24. 율법학자 한 사람이 그에게 다가와 말씀드렸습니다. "스승님, 어디로 가시든지 저는 스승님을 따르고자 합니다. "
 25.  Jmmanuel spoke to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but I have no fixed place where I can lay my head.
 25. 임마누엘이 대답하셨습니다. "여우에게도 굴이 있고 하늘을 나는 새에게도 보금자리가 있으나, 나는 내 머리를 누일 거처가 없소이다.
 26. "I have the mission to preach wisdom and knowledge, therefore I am moving restlessly through the lands.
 26. 나는 지식과 지혜를 가르칠 사명을 가졌으므로 쉴 새 없이 온 땅을 다녀야만 합니다."
 27.  And another, one of his disciples, said to him, "Master, permit me to go and bury my father who just died.”
 27, 이때 제자들 가운데 하나가 말씀드렸습니다. "주여, 제 아비가 죽었다 하오니, 제가 가서 돌아가신 분을 장사지내고 오도록 허락해 주소서."
 28.  But Jmmanuel said to him, "Follow me and let the dead bury their dead."
 28. 임마누엘이 말씀하셨습니다. "나를 따르시오. 죽은 사람은 죽은 자들로 하여금 장사지내게 하시오."

The Healing of Two Possessed Persons
귀신들린 두 사람을 고치심

 

 29.  He arrived at the other shore, in the region of the Gadarenes. There, two possessed persons ran up to him; 
 29. 그가 건너편 가다라 지방으로 오셨을 때입니다. 귀신들린 자 둘이 그에게 달려 왔는데, 

they came out of the burial caves and were very dangerous, so that no one could walk on this street.

그들은 묘지 안에서 나왔으며 위험하여 아무도 이 길로 다니지를 못했습니다.
 30.  And behold, they cried out, saying, "What do you want of us, you son of Gabriel, the celestial son?
 30. 그들은 소리쳐 말했습니다. "하늘의 아들인 가브리엘의 아들이시여, 우리에게 무엇을 원하십니까?
 31. "Have you come to torment us before it is even time?"
 31. 때가 되지도 않았는데 우리를 괴롭히려고 오셨습니까?"
 32.  Then the evil spirits within the possessed asked him, 
 32. 그 때 귀신들린 자들 속의 악령들이 그에게 간청하였습니다.
"Master, if you intend to drive us out, then let us go into the herd of swine grazing just over there.”
"주여, 우리를 몰아내어 저기에서 방목되고 있는 돼지 떼 속으로 들어가게 하소서"
 33.  And he spoke, "So go there.”
 33. 그가 말씀하셨습니다. "그리로 가라. "
 34.  Then they went out into the swine, and behold, the whole herd rushed down to the water and drowned.
 34. 악령들이 돼지 떼 속으로 들어가니, 그 돼지 떼가 물 속으로 치달아 빠져 죽었습니다.
 35.  The swineherds fled and went into the town and told everything, including what had happened to the possessed.
 35. 돼지 치던 자가 달아나 마을로 들어가 귀신들린 자들의 일과 모든 것을 말했습니다.
 36.  And behold, the whole town came out and approached Jmmanuel.
 36. 그러자 온 마을 사람들이 임마누엘에게로 달려 왔습니다.
 37.  And when they saw him, they asked him to leave their area.
 37. 그리고 그들은 그에게 마을에서 떠나가도록 요구했습니다.
