 1. When Jmmanuel was born in the stable at Bethlehem, in the shelter in the land of the Jewsduring the time of Herod Antipas, Tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea, behold,

 1. 임마누엘이 유대 땅 베들레헴의 마구간에서 태어났을 때, 당시 갈릴레아와 페래아의 영주는 헤롯 안티파스였습니다. 

wise men arrived in Jerusalem from the Orient and asked:

하루는 동방으로부터 현자들이 예루살렘에 와서 말하였습니다. 
 2. "Where is the newborn king of wisdom of the Jews?
 2. "새로 태어나신 유대의 지혜의 왕은 어디에 계시오? 
 3. "We have seen a bright light in the sky and heard a voice saying,
 3. 우리는 하늘에서 밝은 빛을 하나 보았고, 이렇게 말하는 목소리를 들었소. 
 4. "Follow the tail of the light, because the king of wisdom of the Jews is born, who will bring great knowledge.
 4. '그 빛의 꼬리를 따라 가시오. 위대한 지식을 가지고 올 유대의 지혜의 왕이 태어나고 있기 때문이오.' 
 5. "Therefore we have come to worship the newborn king of wisdom. 
 5. 그래서 우리는 새로 태어나신 지혜의 왕에게 경의를 표하기 위해 왔소이다. 
 6. "He shall possess the knowledge of god and be a son of the celestial son Gabriel.
 6. 그는 신의 지식을 갖추고 있을 것이며 하늘의 아들인 가브리엘의 아들일 것이오. 
 7. "His knowledge will be boundless, as will be his power to control human consciousness, 
 7. 그의 지식은 무한할 것이며 그의 권능은 인간의 영혼을 지배할 것입니다. 

so that humans may learn and serve Creation."

그리하여 사람들이 창조에 대하여 알게 되고 섬길 수 있을 것입니다. " 
 8.  When Herod Antipas heard of this, he was frightened, and with him everyone in Jerusalem,     
 8. 헤롯 안티파스는 이 말을 듣자 두려움에 사로잡혔고, 예루살렘의 모든 사람들도 마찬가지였습니다. 

because they feared that the newborn child would wield dreadful power.

이는 그들이 새로 태어난 아기가 엄청난 능력을 발휘할지도 모른다는 생각에 겁을 먹었기 때문이었습니다. 
 9.  Herod Antipas called together all the chief priests and scribes from among the people and
     inquired of them where Jmmanuel had been born.
 9. 헤롯 안티파스는 백성들 가운데 있는 모든 대사제들과 율법학자들을 소집하여 임마누엘이 어디에서 태어났는지를 물었습니다.
 10.  And they replied: "In Bethlehem, in the Jewish land; for thus it was written by the prophet Micah:
 10. 그들은 그에게 말하였습니다. “유대 땅의 베들레헴이올시다. 왜냐하면 그에 대해 예언자 미가가 이렇게 기록했기 때문입니다.

 11. "'And you, Bethlehem, in the land of the Jews, are by no means the least among the cities in Judea,
 11. '그리고 유대 땅의 베들레헴아. 너는 결코 유대의 고을 가운데서 가장 보잘 것 없는 곳이 아니니, 

for from you shall come forth the king of wisdom, who will bring great knowledge to the people of Israel so that they may learn and serve Creation."'

이는 네게서 지혜의 왕이 태어날 것이요, 그는 이스라엘 백성들에게 위대한 지식을 가지고 와서 그들로 하여금 창조를 배우고 섬길 수 있게 하실 것이기 때문이니라.'”  
 12.  Thereupon, Herod Antipas called the wise men secretly and diligently asked them when the bright light with the long tail had appeared in the sky.
 12. 그러자 헤롯 안티파스는 현자들을 은밀하게 불러 그 긴 꼬리를 가진 밝은 빛이 언제 하늘에 나타났었는지를 자세하게 물었습니다.
 13.  He later directed them to Bethlehem, and said, 
 13. 그리고 나서 그들을 베들레헴으로 가게 하면서 당부를 했습니다. 

"Go and search diligently for the young child and when you find him, let me know, so that I may also come and adore him.

"가거든 부지런히 그 어린 아기를 찾으시오. 그리고 찾거든 내게 알려 주어 나도 그에게 경의를 표할 수 있도록 해주시오. " 
 14.  After they had listened to Herod Antipas, they departed. 
 14. 헤롯 안티파스의 말이 끝나자 현자들은 출발하였습니다. 

And behold, the light with the long tail, which they had observed in the Orient, moved ahead of them with a high singing sound until it reached Bethlehem and stood directly over the stable where the infant was born.

그러자 동방에서 그들이 보았던 그 긴 꼬리를 가진 빛이 매우 높은 음조로 울리는 소리를 내면서 베들레헴에 이르기까지 그들을 앞장서 가더니 아기가 태어난 마구간의 바로 꼭대기에 멈추었습니다. 
 15.  When they saw this they were filled with great joy.
 15. 현자들은 이것을 보고 대단히 기뻐하였습니다. 
 16.  They then went into the stable and found the young child with his mother, Mary, and with Joseph.    
 16. 그들은 마구간으로 들어가 모친 마리아와 요셉과 함께 있는 그 어린 아기를 발견하였습니다. 

And they fell down and worshiped the infant and offered their treasures, which were gold, frankincense and myrrh.

아기 앞에 엎드려 경배하고 가지고 간 보물들을 바쳤으니, 보물들 이란 황금과 유향과 몰약이었습니다. 
 17.  However, the voice again rang out from the light high above, saying 
 17. 그러자 위에 높이 떠 있던 그 빛으로부터 목소리가 울려 나오며 말하기를, 

that they should not return to Herod Antipas because he planned evil for the young child.

헤롯 안티파스가 그 아기를 해치고자 획책하고 있으니 그들이 헤롯에게 돌아가서는 안 된다고 하였습니다. 
 18.  And they returned to their homeland by another route.
 18. 그래서 그들은 그들의 나라로 갈 때 다른 길로 돌아갔습니다. 
 19. 세 현자가 떠나간 뒤에 하늘의 아들 가브리엘이 요셉에게 나타나서 말하였습니다.
 19.  After the three wise men had left, behold, the celestial son Gabriel appeared to Joseph, saying:

 20. "Arise and take the infant and his mother Mary with you and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I beckon you, 
 20. "일어나시오. 아기와 아기의 어머니 마리아와 함께 이집트로 피하시오. 그 곳에서 내가 지시할 때까지 머물러 있으시오. 

because Herod Antipas is planning to seek out the young child and kill him, since he fears that this babe might wield terrible power.

이는 헤롯 안티파스가 아기가 커다란 능력을 발휘할 것을 겁내어 아기를 찾아내어 죽이려고 계획하고 있기 때문이오. 
 21. "While you are in Egypt, I will send my messenger to Herod Antipas to teach him the truth."
 21. 당신들이 이집트에 머무르는 동안, 나는 헤롯 안티파스에게 사자를 보내어 그에게 진실을 가르쳐 주겠소. " 
22.  And Joseph arose and took the young child and his mother by night and escaped 
 22. 그리하여 요셉은 밤중에 몸을 일으켜 어린 아기와 그의 어머니 마리아를 데리고 탈출을 하였는데, 

under the guidance of the celestial son Gabriel in the descending light, which fled with them to Egypt.

그 내려온 빛 속에 타고 있는 하늘의 아들 가브리엘은 그들을 안내하여 이집트까지 갔습니다. 
 23.  Here they remained until Herod Antipas had a change of mind and his inner fear abated.
 23. 그들은 헤롯 안티파스가 마음을 돌이키고 그의 두려움을 진정시킬 때까지 이집트에 머물렀습니다.        
 24.  When Herod Antipas realized that he had nothing to fear from the young boy, who was credited only with great wisdom and knowledge, he felt safe in his realm. 
 24. 헤롯 안티파스가 그 어린 아기에게 단지 위대한 지혜와 지식만 주어졌을 뿐 그가 두려워할 것이 아무것도 없음을 깨닫자, 그는 그와 그의 영토가 안전함을 느꼈습니다. 

Thus, he promised the messenger of the celestial son Gabriel he would no longer pursue Mary, Joseph and Jmmanuel.

따라서 그는 하늘의 아들 가브리엘의 사자에게 마리아와 요셉, 그리고 임마누엘을 더 이상 쫓지 않겠다고 약속하였습니다. 
 25.  Now that Herod Antipas and his followers had changed their attitude, behold, 

 25. 헤롯 안티파스와 그의 수하들이 마음을 돌이켰을 때, 

the celestial son Gabriel appeared again before Joseph in Egypt, and said,

하늘의 아들 가브리엘은 이집트에 머물고 있던 요셉에게 다시 나타나 말하였습니다. 
 26. "Arise and take the young child and his mother Mary and move to the land of Israel; 
 26. "일어나 아기와 그의 모친 마리아를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 되돌아가시오. 

all those who sought the child's life have had a change of heart."

아기의 목숨을 노리던 자들이 모두 마음을 바꾸어 먹었습니다. " 
 27.  And Joseph stood up, took the child and his mother, and returned into the light which once more had appeared. 
 27. 그러자 요셉이 일어나 아기와 그의 모친을 데리고 다시 나타난 그 빛 속으로 들어갔습니다. 

It brought them to Israel.

그 빛은 그들을 이스라엘로 데리고 갔습니다. 
 28.  The celestial son Gabriel brought them back to the land of Galilee. 
 28. 하늘의 아들 가브리엘은 그들을 갈릴레아 땅으로 다시 데리고 갔습니다. 
 29.  There they dwelled in the city called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken by the prophets would be fulfilled, 
 29. 그들은 나자렛 마을에서 살았는데, 이는 그럼으로써 예언자들이 말한 바가 성취되도록 하기 위해서였습니다.

"Jmmanuel shall be called the Nazarene."
'임마누엘은 나자렛 사람이라 불릴 것이니라.'
